A must do Otaki walk for both New Zealanders and visitors. There are many interesting graves. The oldest graves are at the top of the hill. Unfortunately someone has planted agapanthus around the graves at the top and it is now too difficult to read the tombstones. My favourite is Elizabeth Colenso; the pioneer and teacher who was married to the missionary William Colenso. Our grave for pioneer James Symons also has a footstone. The agapanthas need to be dug out from every affected grave and as they come back poisoned. The church is generally opened during the day from around 10 am. It is a beautiful Māori Anglican church and spiritually very powerful. I’m having trouble loading an iPad photo, sorry, it only takes Google photos. To get to the cemetary, drive through the old Otaki township and turn right at Te Rauparaha Street, it is on the left.
Nice cemetery. (Bit scary though) ○-○
